ABSTRACT

Gil Gonzalez arrived at Espanola, from the Spanish Main, with 112,000 drachms of gold. At this time the Spaniards had planted three colonies in the Gulph of Uraba-"one called Sancta Maria Antigua, twenty leagues from Darien; Acla; and the third, called Nombre de Dios, in the dominions of King Careta, thirty-seven leagues distant from Acla."
