ABSTRACT

The inhabitants of that island were considered by the Royal Audience so disobedient, that the licentiate Prado was sent to regulate the administration of justice there, and at " Nuestra Senora de la Asumpcion," in Margarita: he was directed to visit the Indian villages in the neighbourhood, and, in company with all the Dominican and Franciscan friars, to sign a declaration of their opinion concerning the propriety of making war upon the Indians, for in that case the King would permit it to be done.
