ABSTRACT
Three sorts of French at first resorted to Espanola: the first were Buccaneers, or hunters, who lived by killing black cattle, and selling their hides and tallow; the second were called Flibustiers, from the Dutch fly-boats in which they generally sailed; these were, properly speaking, freebooters ; the third were planters.
