ABSTRACT

Once data have been collected they have to be analysed. This chapter outlines four broad factors which affect how they are analysed. Subsequent chapters examine the particular methods of analysis and related statistics in more detail. Four factors which affect how the data are analysed are:

1 the number of variables being examined; 2 the level of measurement of the variables; 3 whether we want to use our data for descriptive

or inferential purposes; 4 ethical responsibilities.
