ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the knowledge flows in the consultation and the impact that a computer can have on a consultation. Some research into computer use in general practice is reviewed, and we look at practical aspects of how to use a computer during a consultation without damaging rapport with the patient. Ways in which these practical skills can be used in everyday consultations are also discussed.
