ABSTRACT

While, indeed, poetry “read” and poetry “written” have a healing component, poetry is a literary art form, not a medical or nursing prescription. However, poetry and creative writing by nurses can be especially revealing in a healthcare system that is burdened by cost and regulation. My state test and my state license are not enough to ensure that I will practice at my highest level. Numerous local and federal agencies monitor, audit and accredit the work of myself and others in the healthcare system. Not bad, but not necessarily good – many of the regulations are boggy and burdensome.
