ABSTRACT

Synopsis: Attention is now turned to a number of spherically symmetric problems. After a recap, readers are guided through the mathematics associated with free-particle wave functions. A simple nuclear shell model is constructed using the infinite spherical well. Two-body formalism is introduced in the context of the finite spherical well, viewed as a crude neutron–proton (deuteron) potential. Additional applications are made to the Coulomb potential for atomic systems and the confined Coulombic potential as a model of the heavy–light quark system.
