ABSTRACT

The importance of politics in the fair distribution of resources allocated to the health sector no longer needs to be proved. The equitable redistribution of limited resources will remain one of the greatest problems in ethics for years to come. Like other industrialized nations, France’s health sector has been taking an ever-increasing part of the federal pie. Between 1960 and 1991, the percentage of the total budget taken up by the health services rose from 4.2% to over 9%. Despite or because of the fact that medicine is at the center of biotechnological innovations and a forerunner in the race for knowledge about human beings, the field of medicine has reached a point where a majority of the questions it poses to mankind converge. The medical profession to a great extent is involved in the battle against the injustice of fate or the biological history of every human being.
