ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the different data sources of intimate femicide and the reporting of prevalence at the local, regional, and global level. It explores what different rates and trends mean in terms of understanding the nature and extent of the number of women killed by their male intimate partner. The chapter also considers the deaths from intimate partner violence that are not counted as well as the impact of recent law reform on what is and/or can be counted, including in South American countries, where feminicide/femicide laws have been introduced to ensure better criminal law responses to women’s deaths.
