ABSTRACT
Some of the future challenges facing regional policy in Europe are vividly illustrated by recent developments in Germany. Here reunification has resulted in disparities on a scale quite different from those that existed prior to 1990. The integration of Central and Eastern European countries into the EU will pose similar difficulties to European regional policy, albeit on a much larger scale.
