ABSTRACT
The regional dimension (that is, encompassing structure and structural problems, administration, policy and implementation) in the former Soviet Union and the countries that used to be defined as centrally administered 1 is characterised by the general framework of the transformation and reform processes. The scale of regional problems and the role of regional policy is different from country to country and although not a central priority in the policy-forming process, there are several indications of its increasing importance.
