ABSTRACT

Juliet is the daughter of the noble Capulets, who has met and fallen in love with Romeo, son of the Montagues. Shakespeares Romeo and Juliet follows the fated tragic course of a doomed love affair. Romeo and Juliet become so impassioned and blinded by love that they ignore all the dangers that their relationship and decision to marry secretly will produce. The private scenes of their exchanges of love and vows alternate with the public scenes of antagonism between the houses of Montague and Capulet. Romeo and Juliet are caught in this conflict and become the sacrificial victims whose deaths resolve the feud. Juliet is full of unbridled expectation as to what news her Nurse will have for her. Notice how she wants time to pass swiftly. She says this several times in different speeches in the play. The actor should use the questions to portray Juliets fierce insistence to get the answers she longs to hear.
