ABSTRACT

In this chapter Alyson Clare describes the progress made by Chris Raine, a pupil at the small rural primary school of which she is head teacher. Chris is a child with Down’s syndrome and despite the misgivings of some within the local education authority, but with the ready support of his community, he began school in a nearby village rather than the special school over twenty miles away. Alyson recorded the way professionals and pupils combined forces to provide Chris with an education.
