ABSTRACT

It is perhaps inevitable that distance educators become extremely attached to their courses. Whether singly or in teams, they may well have spent several years honing the course to educational perfection. By the time it gets to students, it will probably be an integrated multimedia package which incorporates all of the design features demanded by the current pedagogic orthodoxy. During subsequent presentations the course writers will usually monitor performance indicators such as student numbers and success rates, treasuring the good ones and hoping to explain away the bad ones.
