ABSTRACT

H. C. Beeching, canon of Westminster and editor notably of Milton, allotted in his anthology of religious poems considerable space to Herbert. He also summarised in a note the common disapprobation of Herbert’s obscurity and conceits, marking, too, the ever-increasing awareness of his technical brilliance. See also above, p. 30.
