ABSTRACT
Alexander Campbell (1764–1829) was described by Sir Walter Scott, whom he tried to tutor in music, as ‘a warm-hearted man ... of many accomplishments, but dashed with bizarrerie of temper’. The book from which this extract is taken was modelled on Thomas Warton’s History of English Poetry.
