In 1933 the author married Professor Austin Duncan-Jones of the Department of Philosophy, University of Birmingham; reviewers sometimes referred to her by her married name. This was the first full-length book on Hopkins and received a number of polite reviews, but it seems to have had little critical influence.
In the extract below (pp. 46ff), Phare develops a comparison between Hopkins and Wordsworth.
