ABSTRACT
The history of Greek thought does not start only at the moment at which an original and free attempt to organize a system of reflections on the order of nature or on that of conduct first becomes marked. It begins with the attempt to ascertain the moral demands of common thought, or to extract from religious beliefs the various views which they contain regarding the past or present history of the universe.
