Hugh Walpole has already said ofJurgen 'here at last is a book that America can show Europe.' But Mr. Cabell employs an elaborate symbolism richly evocative ofEurope whereas Mr. Faulkner writes of a wretched family in the Mississippi hills. Still one cannot imagine a cultivated Frenchman or Russian indifferent to this beautiful story.
