ABSTRACT

Courtney (1850-1928) read classics at University College, Oxford, and was elected a Fellow in philosophy at New College. In 1890 he joined the Daily Telegraph and became literary editor. He became editor of the Fortnightly Review in 1894, and subsequently chairman of the London publishing house, Chapman & Hall. He published verse by Pound in the Fortnightly as well as essays on Tagore (1 March 1913), Vorticism (1 September 1914), and Remy de Gourmont (1 December 1915).
