ABSTRACT
There is major debate in developmental psychology. It has been fuelled in part by cross-cultural evidence of different conceptions of morality and self, but also by gender studies. The conflict is between those who search for basic processes inside the head of the individual, and those who search for them in the interaction between persons. Many people see these as irreconcilable positions. In this chapter I argue for a model that bridges this gap.
