The three preceding chapters have dealt with love and marriage from the standpoint of the individual couple or their counselor . We have seen, however, that the things these individuals can do to improve marriage are limited by the community and the larger social order. We live-under a culture and although some of us, finding it oppressive, may defy it in some ways and some of the time , yet our little personal reb ellions are less effective than joining with others to study and attack th e difficulties which we feel in common with them.
