ABSTRACT
We have observed that among the hundreds of small tribal cultures in the world there is a great variety of family patterns, but that few sequences or strong correlations of these patterns with stages of cultural development can be established. In Chapters III and IV we reviewed the cultural history of the family in the Old World civilizations and modern America. In Chapters V and VI we traced the changes of the modern industrial era. Can we now generalize as to the nature of these changes and their probable destiny?
