As the Map of Shopping Centres and Isolated Shops shows, all but two of the first three types of shopping centres are in the northern part of the town. The exceptions are centres Number 6, the Park, opposite Albert Park, and Number 7, Linthorpe Village, along the southern end of Linthorpe Road. Both of these are "intermediate centres". Linthorpe Village, particularly, represents the shift of shopping facilities towards the present centre of gravity of the town. It is already the most prosperous, and it is certainly the most promising, of the intermediate centres. In the remainder of the southern area and on the new housing estates, there are only strictly local shopping centres.
