Distinguished Muslim historian, sociologist, and philosopher. Abdal-Rahman Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406) wrote Muqaddimah, the acclaimed first volume of his world history, Kitab al-Ibar. Muqaddimah described his philosophy of human culture and civilization, and, in particular, the reasons for the rise and fall of civilizations.
