W e are abou t to venture together in some by-w ays of th e field of acoustics, and, as it is hoped to enlist the com pany and sym pathy of the general reader, I am venturing to preface th is chap ter w ith a brief account of th e th ree fundam entals of our subject-the Sensation of Sound, th e N ature of a Sound W ave, and the N ature of “ Resonance To those who are already well acquainted w ith them I offer th e alternatives of an apology from the au tho r, or the righ t to skip.
