Seasonal mateships do not outlast the breeding period, this owing to the fact that members of the species con cerned live a year at most, or that, in the case of animals
living longer than a year, a new partner is chosen at the beginning of each breeding period. Seasonal mateships may be either (ei) solitary, or (ez) within the herd.
