ABSTRACT
In Chapter VIII we dealt with some aspects of the emotional life in children, for emotion seems to lie at the root of the problem of the content of phantasy. In Chapter IX, by a brief discussion of certain characteristics of infantile thinking, something was accomplished towards paving the way for the present chapter. In dealing with what is conceived to be the fundamental function of children’s imaginings the main thesis of this book is reached.
