ABSTRACT

As was described in Chapter II a further attempt to gain phantasy material, and an inroad into the usually unexpressed thoughts of children, was made by means of a study of ink-blot reactions. Whipple has a section on ink-blots in his Manual of Mental and Physical Tests, and refers there to several researches into imagination by this means, notably those of Sharp, Pyle, and Kirkpatrick. Ink-blots have also been used in an attempt to learn more about the unconscious complexes of neurotic patients. 1 Cicely Parsons among others has applied the apparatus of ink-blots with children. 2 Ink-blots have not been used to any extent with very young subjects.
