ABSTRACT

MANY OF THE PEOPLE who are interested in this subject are concerned with newly industrialized countries, and some would like to study definite techniques which could be used in the introduction of change in their own societies. They will find useful a manual called Cultural Patterns and Technical Change (18) published by UNESCO in French and English, though some of the details in it may already be out of date, since there were considerable delays in publication. I want, in this paper, to discuss a general way of looking at technological change and its implications for mental health and child development.
