ABSTRACT

Motor responses as a means of expression of thoughts and feelings were discussed in Chapter XIII. Motor responses as ends in themselves will be the topic of the present chapter. Pronunciation, hand-writing, drawing, singing, painting, modeling and hand work of all sorts involve the existence of connections between certain stimuli and certain movements of the muscles: to learn these acts is to form these connections. The special principles of teaching these acts are, then, principles derived from the psychology of connections of motor skill.
