ABSTRACT

In the history of Research in English classic instances of loss of point through tactics outstripping strategy are provided by Grammar, Prosody, and Phonetics. The description of scientific work is a commonplace how far it covers scientific research is open to much debate. The degree of technique can be given by training to a large proportion of moderately able persons. And it is easy for a Director to decide whether an individual researcher has enough technique and is doing the work properly. A Directory has got to be almost a political leader, if he is to do more than shake his head at particular misrepresentations. Misrepresentation there must be literature being so ambiguous and interpretation so subject to accidental and personal motives. It assumes that literature can supply materials, and probably something more, to the science of psychology.
