ABSTRACT

This chapter consideres the issues that are raised by repeated miscarriage, whether it is two or five or more, the personal impact, the issues of cause and treatment and the steps women can take to help them. The grief of recurrent miscarriage can accumulate to erupt after a particularly distressing event. It is rare to have five miscarriages before a successful pregnancy, but having two or three is not so unusual. Without knowing the cause of a miscarriage it is difficult to give the right treatment. Medical treatments have come in and out of fashion based on rather shaky foundations. They are to a certain extent experimental although they do have fairly high success rates. Many women find they have to take the responsibility for finding out about miscarriage and the medical help that may be available the nearest miscarriage clinic or consultant who is interested in miscarriage, or information about the latest research.
