This chapter offers a review of research, rather than a theoretical exploration, and introduces issues which are developed further in other chapters in this section. The research highlights what pupils’ concepts of ‘technology’ are and their concepts of various aspects of technological processes. It also provides a discussion of how the concepts held by pupils affect their learning, and how teachers’ concepts of technology affect their teaching, and, in consequence, pupils’ learning.
