Outline of a study of the effects of adopting the 'Norwich' system in the Bristol Local Prison
THE MAIN PHASES OF THE STUDY 1. Visits to Winchester, Lincoln, andLeicester Local Prisons to get a
background knowledge of this type of prison (1, 7, and 9 May respectively).
2. Visit to Norwich LocalPrison. We have been given to understand that the main features of the new Norwich system are keeping prisoners in association throughout the day, allocating the minding of groups of prisoners (about eight in each group) to specific officers, and the pairing of officers. If the design of the Bristol study is to be reasonably efficient we will need further information about the Norwich experiment.
