Organizations and social bonds: is community a stage?

It is evident that bonds between persons are multiple - some are based upon biological factors, such as sex, stage of life, or age; some are historically and culturally determined. We know very little about the components of social bonds and how they differ in various social structures. Tiger talks of bonding as a biological process, ‘the out come of which involves specific individuals recognizing other indi viduals as directly and distinctly relevant to themselves’.3 But, most relevant to our discussion of community, we have not been able to determine the qualitative importance and variations between different social linkages.
