ABSTRACT

THE method of analysis to be used in the following chapters will be to study how the pattern of social activity at Glacier, as described, has come about through the interaction of the firm’s organizational structure, its customary way of doing things, and the behaviour of its members. That is to say, we shall study the interaction of social structure, culture, and personality. But before undertaking this analysis we shall define the terms to be used throughout. In those instances where these definitions are found to coincide only partly with current usage, this is due to the fact that no consistent and widely accepted popular or scientific usages could be found. Other concepts applying to particular aspects of the analysis will be introduced and defined as necessary in the appropriate sections.
