ABSTRACT

allied engineering is a European firm which produces articles in mass production for sales to customers via the retail trade. The firm has had a long existence, and confrontation with the new competitive environment has made it necessary to introduce new products and rather important changes in organization and technology. Management personnel of various echelons were not always found willing or able to co-operate in bringing about changes. Since the whole-hearted co-operation of managerial people was considered a conditio sine qua non, those who were lacking in drive to introduce new concepts were replaced. The new appointees were usually younger men, so that a rejuvenation of managerial personnel has resulted, which amounts on average to an approximate ten years’ cut in age.
