ABSTRACT
abacus is an American company with activities in Europe, which operates in the field of electronics applied mainly to information systems. Until a few years ago, the International Division (id) of this company, under the control of an executive vice-president domiciled in domestic headquarters and reporting to the abacus president, was practically a separate company. id headquarters had a sizeable staff, but the European national managements had a considerable degree of autonomy in handling their local business.
