ABSTRACT

As swoon as the most pressing requirements of post-war reconstruction had been satisfied, Europe started to concentrate on the realization of a united Europe – to the extent possible – and a prosperous society. In other words, it had to do two things in practice: to ‘de-nationalize’ in the direction of the European Economic Community, i.e. a vast potential mass market, while simultaneously reorientating its business and social structure towards the creation of an ‘affluent’ society in each country.
