ABSTRACT

The first phase lasted four weeks and covered the period of the investigation. Working and training groups remained virtually undifferentiated and no spare workers were available to compensate for absenteeism or for any increases in loom-stoppage rates. At the beginning of the phase management agreed to pay minimum rates—a decision taken within a day or two of the start of the investigation. The building was completed and a start was made on the transfer of the d block of looms to its new site.
