ABSTRACT
In the Introduction it was suggested that although the work described in this book was carried out in an Indian textile mill the findings might have some generality. The concepts and assumptions on which the work has been based are not specific to Indian industry, but arise from experience in many different social and technological environments. This chapter and the next will discuss these concepts and assumptions more generally.
