ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we shall begin to explore the practical implications of the guidelines that have now been articulated, by examining some important processes of innovation which have been taking place since the early nineteen-sixties, in the organization of regional planning in Britain. Although these processes have often been hesitant and sometimes controversial, we shall argue that the new forms of skill and of organizational relationship which have been emerging at the regional level are of considerable importance for the evolution of public planning in general, and offer some significant opportunities for future experiment.
