ABSTRACT
Mr. Lloyd George’s method is impotent even to attempt a remedy for unemployment. He can only aggravate the disease and make it mortal. The people’s Budget would be the people’s curse. This is already an outline of the programme which advanced Lloyd George to the position of the people’s hero before very long and left Keir Hardie and the Labour Party very far behind. The Liberal Publication Department experimented with quite a variety of leaflets aimed at setting out Government’s record to the best advantage and emphasizing how much better still it would have been but for the constant mischiefs wrought by the House of Lords. The Government reply, on December 2nd, was to carry, by a great majority in the Lower House, a resolution claiming that the Peers had invaded the financial privileges of the Commons and, far more important, to announce that a Dissolution had been advised.
