Conclusion

Technological progress counts, and as Schumpeter stressed, perfect competition therefore has no intrinsic claim to superiority. That vision is surely not debatable. But Schumpeter’s notion that large, monopolistic enterprises would be the best engine of technological progress has led to much research, both theoretical and empirical. We summarize our views of this research, taken as a whole, here.
