ABSTRACT

A consideration of several Czech scenographers from the second half of the twentieth century makes clear that the tradition described in Chapter 8 was carried forward vigorously, not only in the work of Josef Svoboda but also in a number of his younger contemporaries and those of the following generation. In this chapter I shall focus on four of these artists and mainly on their work up to the 1990s. What was true in Chapter 8 is also true here. I have been selective, and many others who have also done outstanding work might have been included here.
