ABSTRACT

this was a period of slow, but steady, expansion in production. The combined output of cars and commercial vehicles rose from about 4,000 in 1905 to over 10,000 in 1908. Before the First World War intervened, production had climbed unspectacularly to 34,000. No breakdown of this figure exists, but it seems likely that about a quarter of these were commercial vehicles, which leaves some 25,000 as the number of private cars made.
