ABSTRACT
Although the Industrial Revolution was well under way when Queen Victoria came to the throne, the Transport Revolution caused by the use of the steam-engine, with the truly revolutionary innovations of the railway and the steamship, had only just begun. In this field, the Victorian era was to be the scene of some of the most spectacular achievements of the new technology and economy.
