The liberation of the peoples of Eastern Europe and the German Democratic Republic (GDR) also means liberation for leftists in this country. Relieved of the pressure of the reality of a fraudulent socialism, they can heave a sigh of relief. The liberation of our neighboring countries has brightened the ordinarily pessimistic picture of humanity. This still needs to be grasped, through openness, respect and a willingness to listen.
