ABSTRACT
Most books on the Americans in Spain have inevitably concentrated on their military exploits. It was, after all, a war, and the majority of Americans went there as volunteer soldiers. But the story is a larger one, not only because Americans were there in other roles but also because their experiences in Spain extended beyond the battlefield.
